Throughout a particularly bitter winter the young man is desperate to prove that he too can be a hero--not realizing that many times heroes turn out to be just ordinary people caught up in events, who do what comes naturally to save others regardless of risk to themselves.

This book was just that bad. The day the British come through, the Rebel troops follow, and Tim is able to see his brother. He does not answer. Ever since Sam has gone to war they have caused a lot of arguments and fights between Father and Sam. As the story continued to expand, the revisions were sent back and forth between the brothers until both were satisfied with the final draft.
Tim sees firsthand the brutality of the American soldiers to his Tory neighbors and he sees the cruelty of the British soldiers.
It is doubly hard for Richard Ayre, a London orphan who had been scooped off the streets as a child and sent to the Jamestown Colony. It gives away what happens in the book.
The text is enhanced with images of historical artifacts, works by contemporary artists, and photographs of reenacted scenes. He has trouble deciding where his loyalty lies. As the only other child in the family, Tim must tackle all the chores on his own now, which he resents, but he also feels his brother is fighting for a good cause.
I am not even going to mark this post for spoilers because the title already does that for you. An opinion I had on this book was it was boring at first.
Tim finds an excuse to visit his brother when Rebel soldiers enter his house and violently demand his father's gun, which is with Sam. There are many conflicts that the Meeker''s face during the Revolutionary war. Tim outsmarts them, saves himself, and has to bring the wagon of goods home on his own.
